WolvesClass 2-201's Investigation of Wolves
wolf5.jpg

Class 2-201 researched wolves for our Non-Fiction writing unit. Our investigation consisted of read alouds, independent readings, and website exploration. Students took notes in their graphic organizers and writing notebooks and the class had in-depth discussions about wolves. We discussed how wolves are adapted to their environments, how humans are affecting the wolves' habitats, and the distinct sounds of how wolves communicate. Students used their notes and ideas from our discussions to create the following website about wolves.

We also made a powerpoint presentation of our research! Check it out here:

We hope you enjoy reading about our research on wolves!

What Wolves Eat
Taniyah.jpg

Wolves are carnivores (meat eaters) but they will eat other foods as well. Their diet ranges from big game, such as elk and moose, to earthworms, berries and grasshoppers. In the summer, they eat mice, birds, and fish.

Wolves are fast eaters. They eat their food fast so that it will not be stolen by predators. Wolves hide their food from predators. They also hide their food so they can come back later to eat it.

Where Wolves Live
wolf13.jpg

Listen to Tiana tell us about where wolves live:

Wolves live in North America, Europe, and Asia. Wolves once lived in many areas of the world, but now their territory has changed.

Here are some reasons why wolves have migrated:

1.Wolves migrate so they can hunt their prey.
2.Wolves migrate because they are being hunted by people.
3.Their homes are being destroyed.
4.They need space from people.

How Wolves Live Together

Wolves live in the woods. Gray wolves travel together in what we call packs. Gray wolves live together so they can hunt. They also travel in packs so that they can protect each other. Red wolves do not live in packs.
